General

Water from Khlong Mem has flooded houses in Ban Khlong Wang Makham, Village No. 9, Nong Khaem Subdistrict, Phrom Phiram District, Phitsanulok Province, resulting in 26 houses being submerged. Some villagers have evacuated to sleep in tents on the side of the road. If the water level continues to rise, bedridden patients from several households will have to be evacuated. On August 28, 2024, the water situation in Phrom Phiram District, the border area receiving water from Sukhothai Province, is currently beginning to flow into the Bang Rakam Model project. The water has overflowed and flooded people's houses, especially in Ban Khlong Wang Makham, Village No. 9, Nong Khaem Subdistrict, Phrom Phiram District, Phitsanulok Province. 26 households have been affected. The water level is almost up to the first floor. The water level is from the waist to the head in many places. Some villagers who have single-story houses or are in low areas have had their houses flooded. They have had to evacuate and move their bel ongings to sleep in tents that the Nong Khaem Subdistrict Administrative Organization has set up on the side of the road. However, there are still many households with elderly people and bedridden patients who have to move to sleep on the second floor. However, if the water level increases to a critical level, they will have to evacuate everyone to sleep on the side of the road. The essential thing at the moment is the toilets that are not accessible. Today, the Phitsanulok Provincial Administrative Organization has brought a mobile toilet truck to park and provide services to the villagers. However, for many households that are still living in their homes, it is quite difficult to travel out. They have to walk through the water only because many households lack boats and food. The water level has been flooding for about 4 days and has been rising steadily. Now, the road to the alley is broken. We have to rely on community leaders and villagers to row boats to bring water and food to the inside. At the momen t, the agency has brought a backhoe to dig a barrier to block the water level that is about 1 meter higher than the road. In some places, sandbags have been used to block the water to prevent it from flooding the village more. If the embankment or sandbags collapse, a large amount of water will definitely flood the village even more. Most recently, today, rescue workers from the Mongkhon Tham Friendship Foundation brought 60 survival bags by boat to deliver them to the second-floor stairs and prepared to evacuate bedridden patients if requested to do so. Ms. Somruthai, 28 years old, said that the water level in her house is now waist high and the volume is still increasing. The road to her house is cut off in many places. Currently, there are 26 houses in Village 9 that are flooded. The water started flooding since August 24 and is gradually increasing. It is definitely worse than last year because the water is coming more and more. Now, some people have evacuated to sleep in tents on the side of the road o utside. But inside many houses, there are still bedridden elderly people. It is difficult to enter and exit because there are no boats. They have to walk through the water. If the water is higher, they will be unable to walk and the bedridden elderly people will have to be evacuated. The current water level in Khlong Wang Makham is not as high as in 2022. But if it is the water level from Khlong Mem, it is already high in 2022. And the mass of water has not yet come. It is expected that if it comes all the way, the water will definitely be higher than in 2022. As for her house, the water has flooded up to the first floor. Grandparents who can't walk have to move to the second floor. In the morning, when the child goes to school, they have to ride on her husband's shoulders. As for her, she goes out in the morning and comes back home in the evening because she often goes in and out. It is difficult because she doesn't have a boat. Have to wade through the water. Ms. Long, aged 59, said that the inside of her alley is completely flooded. She had to come out and stay in her neighbor's shed outside. The water level inside is up to her neck and up to her head. The kitchen inside her neighbor's house has collapsed, and the water hasn't fully reached her. Inside, there are still two bedridden patients who have not yet been evacuated and are sleeping in a tent on the side of the road or at the temple hall. She expects that the water will definitely rise because the water from Sukhothai hasn't fully arrived yet. Source: Thai News Agency
