Money-making career: Golden apple snails, easy to raise, good income

General

Villagers in Nakhon Ratchasima have turned to raising golden apple snails or Japanese sweet snails, a new economic animal that is easy to raise and offers a good income of 15,000-20,000 baht per month. The market needs them. Mrs. Namkang Phringpho, 55 years old, a villager in Nai Mueang Subdistrict, Phimai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, brought golden apple snails or Japanese sweet clams to try raising in her backyard after previously raising them in a normal way and being successful. Ms. Namkang said that she tried raising them because no one in her area had raised them yet. She is the first person in Phimai District. Golden apple snails are not difficult to raise, require little investment, can be eaten or sold, and should be a new economic animal in the future. When we first started raising them, we ordered only 50 pairs of parent snails to try out and raised them in a cement pond by putting in about 30-40 centimeters of water. We put aquatic plants such as water hyacinth and duckweed in the pond and put the parent snails of golden apple snails in the pond. In less than a month, the snails will mate. Then, the female will start to lay eggs on the wall of the pond. The snail eggs will be collected and taken to a separate pond for incubation. It will take about 2 weeks for them to hatch. During the first month, feeding them with red duckweed or aquatic plants is sufficient. After that, they will be raised separately in a fattening pond and started feeding them small catfish pellets once a week, along with red duckweed, aquatic plants, and leafy plants. We raised them for another 4 months until they are fully grown and ready to be sold. This type of snail has a lot of meat, soft and not tough. They can be used in a variety of menus such as boiled, dipped in curry, som tam, and can also be sold as parent snails. As for selling golden apple snails, they can be sold starting from their eggs for 2,500-3,500 baht per kilogram or 10 baht per fattened snail. As for the parent snails, they are sold at 50 baht pe r pair, with an average income per month. 15,000-20,000 baht. Nowadays, no matter how much I have, it is still not enough to send because the market demand is high Source: Thai News Agency
