The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue chaired a NA full-time deputies’ meeting to discuss a number of issues to be debated at the NA’s upcoming fifth session.

The Chairman said that since the beginning of the tenure, the 15th NA adopted 16 laws and 21 resolutions with high consensus. Law-building will be a focal point of the upcoming fifth session, during which a large number of large-scale and important bills will be debated and approved. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to cooperation in building a prosperous, fair and healthy Mekong river basin while addressing the fourth Mekong River Commission (MRC) Summit in Vientiane, Laos on April 5.

Chinh spoke highly of the indispensable role of the MRC as well as its efforts to effectively perform the functions and tasks of an international river basin organisation, helping affirm the value of the 1995 Mekong Agreement. Read full story

- The sound policies adopted by the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and coordination in actions by the Government have helped Vietnam keep a close watch on developments of the world economy and make suitable policy adjustments, a Cuban expert has said.

Dr. Ruvislei Gonzalez Saez, a senior researcher at the Cuban Centre for International Policy Research (CIPI), also told the Vietnam News Agency in a recent interview that he is impressed by Vietnam’s GDP growth of 8.02% last year. Read full story

- The Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, made active contributions to the agenda of the 52nd regular session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) that concluded in Geneva on April 4. Read full story

- Vietnam commits to joining actions in addressing consequences of bombs and mines left over from the war, according to Maj. Gen. Tran Trung Hoa, Director General of the Vietnam National Mine Action Centre (VNMAC).

Addressing a New York debate session within the framework of the Mine Action Week held by the United Nations on the occasion of the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action on April 4, Hoa said that Vietnam is among the countries most affected by unexploded ordnance (UXO). - Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung and Cambodian Minister of Labour and Vocational Training Ith Samheng on April 5 co-chaired the Vietnam-Cambodia Labour Ministers' Meeting in Hanoi. Read full story

- Minister of Public Security Gen. To Lam on April 5 met with representatives of the Japan Coast Guard as part of activities in his working visit to the country. Read full story

- French businesses should innovate their approach, enhance their understanding of culture and language, and make changes to adapt to Vietnam's transitioning economy in order to expand their market share and boost investment in the Southeast Asian nation, said Dr. Jean-Philippe Eglinger, the founder of the Viet Phap Strategies.

Addressing a seminar held by Salveo/Adit/ESL economic information consulting firm on April 4 in Paris to introduce investment potential and promote economic and trade cooperation between France and Vietnam, Eglinger said Vietnam is a large and highly potential market, and businesses from both sides have an opportunity to capitalise on strengths generated by the strategic partnership between the two nations and the EU – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). - Vietnamese associations in the Netherlands – Students’ association, Vietnamese community association, and women’s union – on April 4 co-organised the Open Netherlands Games in Amsterdam to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (April 9, 1973 - 2023).

The event, the first of its kind, attracted the participation of many basketball and football teams from European countries including Hungary, Belgium, and France. Read full story

- The Vietnam Trade Office in Australia has helped Vietnamese enterprises to sign a contract to export ten containers of ST25 rice to Vanuatu.

Head of the trade office Nguyen Phu Hoa said that the parties have also agreed on the next shipments, with the total demand expected to be up to thousands of tonnes of Vietnamese rice to Vanuatu. Read full story

- The Vietnam Prosperity Joint-Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank) has officially signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in enhancing digital banking experiences for its customers. Read full story

- The volume of international visitors coming to Vietnam by sea in March rose by over 2.8 times compared to the previous month, according statistics of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).

A series of cruise ships docked at the ports in Nha Trang, Da Nang, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Ninh in the period. Most tourists came from Europe and Asia. Read full story

- A “Night of Pho” event was held in Or Yehuda city, Israel, on April 4, introducing Vietnam’s noodle soup to local people.

Ambassador Ly Duc Trung said that diners invited to try the signature food are those who know and love the country, people and cuisine of Vietnam, many of them local chefs and restaurant owners. Read full story./.
